Paint, patches and cartwheels

OK, so yea,I've been MIA for about a month now. I have been busy and some of the reason is crafts. I made a bunch of stuff for the Littles birthday parties but I'll fill y'all in on that stuff in a later post. I also made a HUGE (and I mean huge) art piece for Little Man's room as well as some updates on old tricycles that a family friend gave me.

But, today, I'm gonna share with ya some of the other stuff I had my hands in.

First up is my ball cap.

Now, I don't know about y'all, but I LOVE me some HGTV and I have some shows that are by far my favorites. That being said, one of those shows would have to be, hands down, Junk Gypsies. Not only do I love their style, the accent and mutual love of junk, but I just love it period. One of the things they have that I was IMMEDIATELY drawn to was a hat that both girls have worn in different episodes.

This is it.

It's not a crazy thing. Not something you would necessary look at twice but I like it. A lot. SO, when I went on their site and saw it was for sale my inner child immediately jumped for joy and did cartwheels. Then, I looked at the price. Now, $20 is not a lot of money to pay for a hat but me being me (aka, cheap) I knew I could try and make my own. SO, the very next day I loaded up the Littles and off we went to Goodwill to find a ball cap; and a cap I did find!

IT'S GREEN!!!! That's my favorite color. Plus, at only $1.99 it came home with me. I did like that wild child was on there. Kinda funny to me since that's what my Mama calls me. I looked in the shirts to see if I could find one that had a patch or something that I could affix to the hat but no such luck. Hmm, if I were a patch where would I hide?

We went to an antique store down the road a piece and low and behold, they had a box of old patches for sale. The prices ranged from $.50 - $2.00 then they had an extra 20% off the entire purchase thing going on so, I picked this little beaut out.

It was originally $2.00 because of it's size but with the sale I only paid $1.40. See?

When I got home, still on a high from my two finds, I took the cap outside and splattered paint on it. Now, I know the original one has more of a droplet pattern but I was too excited and didn't check my reference pic before I went off with the paint! Now, I do love the fling pattern though. It's more crazy and less controlled. Me, in a nutshell.

After the paint dried, I tossed it in the washer for a quick wash and then the next day affixed the patch with my glue gun (DON'T JUDGE ME) and put that bad boy on my noggin' and stepped out on the town in my very own Junk Gypsy inspired lid.

 How'd I do?

If you want to purchase your own JG hat, go here.

Seriously, all their stuff is awesome! AND, I have a mid years resolution. Next May, come hell or high water, I'm gonna attend their Junk-O-Rama Prom. I've already started scouting out stores for the perfect vintage prom dress!

I. Am lame

Sigh.

Yes, it's been almost 2 months since I've been here. I am lame. I could tell you the reason (Daughter's birthday, Son's birthday, my birthday and then I had surgery for this pesky little thing called Thyroid cancer) but you wouldn't really care and well, who can blame you? I do, however, want to get back into my groove and post all the cool and not so cool things that have been happening in my little part of the world so I hope to start that with you tomorrow. Well, once Little Miss is at school and the Little Mr. is taking his nap.

See ya then?

A walk down memory lane

It's a new/old post. Have you ever just liked reading/seeing something you've done or said and laughing or smileing when you remember? Well, I was diggin out the randomness of the blog and came across this one from a bit of a time back and laughed. I remember this day in great detail and if I have to be honest, everytime I pass the store I think of that quilt!

Adventures in shopping

The other day I took the littles with me on a shopping adventure. Now, I say adventure because with two children 4 and under the whole "hands in your pockets" rule goes over about as smoothly as screen doors on a sub. Anyway, we went here.

Photobucket

Because while driving down the road I saw this.

Photobucket

Be still my heart. Do my eyes dare play tricks on me? Well, I whipped the car in and took the kids out. We went inside. Mr. Little was in my arms and Miss Little was attached to my hip all because I told her if she touched/broke anything, we would get in trouble. This store is huge actually and held all types of stuff. I went straight to the linens. I love vintage quilts and table clothes. Not to mention pillow cases and the embrodiery some have on them. SO delicate and pretty. On top of a pile of quilts was this little ditty.

Photobucket

Look at those adorable turtles! My heart was pounding and I was getting excited. In my mmid I had bought this already and was putting it on Mr. Littles big boy bed. "Alright Aleigh. Calm down. I will buy it if it's $50 less".

Photobucket

Not. Even. Closs. I asked the owner of the shop if the tag reflected the sale price and he evr so sweetly informed me that it did not. OK, so half of $290 is what? Oh yea, $145. Still over my $50 mental amount. CRUMBS! He then told me all the linens he had were for sale and that I could buy the whole lot for $2500. Umm, that was a killer deal since the man had about 10 quilts alone. Now, I can't afford $145 what makes you think I can afford $2500? I did stop for a full 2 seconds and think about it though. No. I can't do that. Rick would kill me. I WOULD KILL ME! So I sulked away from the linens, broken hearted and beatdown. We decided to look around some more and found a doll section. Little Miss liked it a lot. Cool dolls and doll houses like this one.

Photobucket

Someday I'd like to get one for her if she likes it when she's older that is. But how adorable is that roof and exterior color? It remindes me of a home you'd see in Avonlee don't ya think? The hometown of Anne Shirly. Oh come on! Still no idea? Anne of Green Gables. Anyway, Miss Little being all kinds of cute among the dolls.

Photobucket

I,personally, was reminded about all the scarey movies I watched as a teen. You know the ones, where the dolls come to life and kill you. YIKES. But most of them were adorable and sweet and looked like they had been best friends with happy little girls all over the place. Except this guy.

Photobucket

Mr. Willie Talk you freak me out. You scare me with your void eyes and creepy mouth. I don't like you. You will not be comming to my house thank you very much.

So at the end of the day we left empty handed. I still dream of the turtle quilt and if I could swing it, I'd snatch him up faster than you could say yee haw!

And on a side note, Little Miss can still wear that dress!

Up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's an

ORANGE?!?!?!

Did anyone happen to look up at the sun (through special glasses of course) on June 5th and see Venus? Well, I did and it looked like a huge orange with a pimple on it.

The orange, of course, was the sun and the pimple? That was Venus.

So cool! The pic above came from Pinterest but it shows you what it all looked like. An orange right? Did you guys happen to see it too?
